From idea to factory

Mamentis has been built with AI from its first commit. Not mostly, and not eventually: from the start. What changed over almost three years is how much of the work AI does, and how well that work is checked.

Looking back, we see nine steps.

2024 to early 2026: learning what AI can build

01 · Founding (January – July 2024). The idea, the company and the first sketches of an AI system that does real work for a person and their company.

02 · Agentic AI R&D (August 2024 – March 2025). Months of research and prototypes on AI agents: what they can really do, where they break, and what a system needs around the model before you can trust it with work. Close to two thousand commits, almost all of them experiments.

03 · The first Partner (April – October 2025). The research turned into the first Partner: an AI colleague with its own instructions, its own files and its own place to work.

04 · Primitive partners (November 2025 – January 2026). We rebuilt Partners from a few strong building blocks, so every Partner is made from the same parts instead of being written case by case.

05 · AI-assisted code (February – April 2026). The platform Mamentis runs on today was written with AI inside the editor, starting from its architecture decisions. People steered and checked every change.

Across these five steps we worked with many models: the GPT-4 and GPT-5 series, DeepSeek, Grok and more. That taught us early what still shapes Mamentis: no single model is the answer, and the system around the model matters as much as the model.

2026: from many tools to one standard

06 · Parallel assistants (May – June 2026). Several AI coding tools worked at the same time on different parts of Mamentis, kept in sync through shared documents. Output grew fast. Keeping it consistent became the new problem.

07 · Agents with one standard (July – September 2026). Automation arrived. AI agents held every environment to one standard: the same decision records, the same reviews, the same sprints, whichever tool or model did the work. This is where the volume of work took off.

08 · Optimisation (1 – 17 October 2026). With the standard in place, we measured and tuned it: fewer rounds per change, faster runs, clearer reviews. Fewer models, each in a set role. Every change now passed a quality review and a security review before it merged.

Step nine: the factory

09 · The factory (since 18 October 2026). AI agents plan, write, test and review. People set the direction and make the decisions. One orchestrator, set reviewers, every change checked twice. The business side of the company now runs in the same factory.

What the nine steps have in common

Every step handed more of the work to AI, and every step added a stronger check. People never left the process. They moved from writing to directing and deciding.

Simplicity came last. The early steps used many models and many tools; the factory uses fewer, each in the role that suits it, all held to the same standard. It took the earlier steps to know which.
